About

Charlie Daboub's formative years were steeped in the world of design and construction, accompanying his father, a distinguished restaurant and nightclub designer, on various projects. These early experiences instilled in him a deep appreciation for the power of design to shape experiences and evoke emotions. His father's pragmatic approach, which emphasized the importance of commercial viability and functional design over purely aesthetic considerations, left a lasting impression on Charlie's design philosophy.


After completing his architectural studies at the University of Texas at Arlington School of Architecture, Charlie relocated to Los Angeles, where he embarked on a two-decade-long career in set design for major film and television productions. This immersive experience allowed him to refine his craft and gain a profound understanding of the narrative potential of design. His work on the climactic final scene of the beloved film Sleepless in Seattle, where he meticulously designed the Empire State Building's observation deck to encapsulate the themes of love and enduring romance, stands as a testament to his ability to create visually stunning and emotionally resonant spaces. The scene's enduring popularity and its ability to evoke powerful emotions in viewers highlight Charlie's talent for crafting designs that deeply connect with audiences.


Despite his successful career in set design, Charlie felt a pull back towards traditional architecture. He began doing more real architecture around ten years ago, carving out a niche for himself by merging his expertise in entertainment design with hospitality and residential projects. Charlie observed a lack of drama and a reluctance to challenge conventional norms in contemporary design. He firmly believes that by embracing the unexpected and infusing a sense of drama into architectural design, it is possible to create spaces that are not only visually captivating but also emotionally resonant and truly unforgettable.


Charlie's unique approach to design is characterized by his ability to seamlessly blend artistry and functionality, creating spaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and commercially viable. His extensive experience in set design has equipped him with a deep understanding of how to use design to tell stories and create immersive experiences. His passion for pushing boundaries and challenging conventional norms is evident in his work, which is always innovative and thought-provoking.
